Operation Seasons Skimming Lee County Deputies were out again - TopicsExpress

Operation Seasons Skimming Lee County Deputies were out again today to protect your credit card information from would-be thieves. In an effort to crack down on fraudsters who steal credit card information utilizing illegal skimming devices, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit, joined by investigators from the Department of Agriculture and Cape Coral Police Department, conducted a joint operation dubbed “Seasons Skimming”. The focus of the operation was to inspect gas station pumps throughout Lee County and intercept any illegal skimming devices. Thieves steal unsuspecting victim’s credit card information which they then use to make illegal purchases, costing victims hundreds and thousands of dollars. Over 54 stations were inspected this morning and no skimming devices were located. Dubbed Operation Seasons Skimming, todays inspections are the continuation of a joint effort that began back in May. Since May, detectives have located a total of four skimming devices. Detectives are not disclosing where the devices were found, but they would like to remind would-be skimmers that they are working with local businesses to help prevent such illegal activity in the future. The results of todays operation demonstrate that those partnerships, combined with increased security features on local gas pumps, are helping to reduce fraud in Lee County. Sheriff Mike Scott and the men and women of the Lee County Sheriffs Office are committed in taking a proactive stance to protect the citizens of Lee County by continued efforts such as operation “Seasons Skimming”. Several of our local media partners also helped us spread the word that the Lee County Sheriffs Office is committed to the enforcement, identification, and prosecution of persons who commit economic crimes in Lee County.
