Opinion: How 2015 is already better than 2014 By Paul Minnich The other day, CD Projekt S.A. revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was delayed 3 months and I wasnt disappointed at all. In a wonderful letter to fans, the developer notes that with the current workload and wanting to achieve minimal bugs in their most important game in their history, that they needed 12 more weeks to deliver that product. I look to 2015 and here are 4 games that have all been touched on over the weekend: Batman Arkham Knight Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Uncharted 4: A Thiefs End The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Looking back to September I can tell you what my most anticipated games list consisted of. The top three were: Destiny GTA 5 Master Chief Collection 3 games, 2 remakes. 2014 was the first full year of next gen consoles and we saw great games launch but their first outings are more of a framework for something bigger. Im talking about Titanfall, Watch Dogs, and Destiny, great ideas at play, but a launching point for something more grand. Occasionally you find a game with something that doesnt work quite well. To our dismay there were many games that fit that description released this holiday. I was anticipating the compendium of Halo games in the Master Chief Collection. I started off with some single player, which was glorious and then tried to work some multiplayer games in, none of which really worked. 15-25 minutes of matchmaking wasnt worth it, and even with all of the patches, my games have had unbalanced teams and I usually found myself in the short handed team. Ive come to loathe the MCC because the multiplayer has many other faults including an inability to connect with my friends on it for custom games, though this doesnt happen as frequently as the issues with matchmaking do. Its disheartening to see other games have shared the same fate as seeing its been an all too common trend. Lets note that I may be criticizing Halo but we know the problem persists with Drive Club, Little Big Planet 3, Assassins Creed Unity, and others. Im not at all Microsoft bashing Im just frustrated like many of you are. That is the past though. Issues are getting resolved, 343 particularly is showing lots of dedication to mending the issue that isnt inherently their fault, and the holiday releases have come to a close. The message from CD Projekt is a breath of fresh air considering all the controversy. I think RockSteady should also be noted because they delayed Arkham Knight (their final Batman game) from October 2014 to June 2015. Naughty Dog has expressed their woes being on a fixed release date so the loose 2015 date for Uncharted can give them the freedom they need to make it their best possible game. One last thing Im going to mention is that while its been a good year, I wasnt as excited for the 2014 titles as I am these four games for 2015. I loved Titanfall, but even on the Destiny release I wasnt as excited as the thought of touching Arkham Knight or MGS 5. While games like Titanfall and Destiny are inaugural releases for their respective franchises, perhaps its that these established series grabs my anticipation more. At any rate the future is so bright were gonna need sunglasses. 2015 looks great and I didnt even start on some of the other amazing titles.
