(Opinion) – Some or many of your readers will question the association of Kukoi’s death with “the hands off demand and safety of Saul Ndow and Mahawa Cham”; two Gambians whose existence and whereabouts still remains a mystery, as much as Kukoi’s death remains tangled in accusations of foul play. This association has ample validity because of the horror and mischief brewing in the 3 B’s (Banjul, Bissau and Bingona), with Jammeh being the primary provocateur, but notwithstanding, the hidden hands that stir this cauldron of cut-throat gangsters and mercenaries. From the Gambian front; our challenge is being undertaken. Jammeh must GO! Indeed, foul play, betrayal and the deafening silence from the Senegalese and Gambians authorities let alone their alleged captors left us with one choice: International campaign to Free Saul Ndow and Mahawa Cham. The solutions to the crisis in our neighborhood must not be left to the “authorities”, especially to Yaya Jammeh; we the people must become the repository of the SOLUTION. The mounting frustrations of not knowing the whereabouts of Saul, Mahawa and the possible “others” exposes our organizational weaknesses and the long existing rift between the Senegalese and Gambian governments, which has deepened since Jammeh’s ascension to power. Both governments hide behind their smoke screen of being “one people” in the public eye but stab each other in the back at the expense of the rest of us; we the mass victims of the neocolonial state. Ousainou Mbenga This “blood line” insincerity between the two governments began with the Senghor and Jawara era and continued through Abdou Diouf, Abdoulaye Wade and degenerated to the lowest level with the current Macky Sall and Jammeh regimes. To us who see unity – Senegambia as our salvation now is the time to dissociate from the insincerity of the “authorities” and their “politics of survival” games. We on the Gambian front, dissociated from the Jammeh regime since its inception. This lofty ideal of Senegambia must be grounded deep in the aspirations of the masses for freedom and prosperity as oppose to the whims of the “authorities”. For the past five decades, the Senegal and Gambia governments have engaged in highly deceptive “poli-tricking” under such meaningless but catchy headlines: “Strengthening Banjul-Dakar Relations” and “Banjul, Dakar Deepen Cooperation”, while each government still hinges on to their respective “Anglophone – Francophone” false sovereignty. For fifty years, what is there to show for in terms of cooperation? A new generation is emerging and determined to build Senegambia from the bottom up! It’s been two months since Saul and Mahawa disappeared without a trace. Someone out there in Senegal and The Gambia knows where they are being held. The silence must be broken! We therefore demand that: 1) Since this incident took place in Senegalese territory; that the Senegalese authorities interrogate: Mr. Cheick Mbaye, Director NPS – Senegal; a registered security firm in Dakar at Avenue Elhadj Malick Sy Immeuble Central Park 4C Mr. Mbaye was hired as Mr. Ndow’s personal security during his stay in Dakar. 2) The Jammeh regime must be pressured to disclose the whereabouts of Saul Ndow and Mahawa Cham. We believe that the Jammeh regime and its security forces know where they are being held. 3) Jammeh and his National Intelligence Agency (NIA), his “Junglers” and his undeclared security forces, refrain from inflicting bodily and mental harm to Saul and Mahawa. 4) Jammeh and his accomplice captors allow the Red Cross and Amnesty International to visit Saul and Mahawa to ascertain their wellbeing. We are calling on all SeneGambians and all who believe in freedom to join us in the International Campaign to Free Saul Ndow and Mahawa Cham! Here is what you can do: 1) Write to ECOWAS and AU and demand their intervention in Saul and Mahawa’s freedom. 2) Write to the Senegalese authorities for their intervention, since Saul and Mahawa were arrested in Senegalese territory. 3)Write to your local representatives in the US and Europe to put pressure on the Gambian and Senegalese authorities to free Saul and Mahawa. 4 Join us in protest at both the Gambian and Senegalese embassies.
