Opportunities for Dalit Youth in Hotel Industry The Claridges Hotel, a well known luxury Five Star hotel in New Delhi, built in 1950s and owned and operated by the Claridges Hotels & Resorts, invites applications for two levels of courses as details given below. (1) Claridges skills Program- Introductory Level runs for the underprivileged youth in Food & Beverage Service, Food Production, House Keeping and Front Office Management with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India. The Course curriculum has been set by the Ministry of Tourism Development, which the Claridges Hotel has to deliver. (2) The Claridges Skill Development Program is a second phase for the selected 18 trainees who complete the Introductory Level successfully. The program runs in tie up with National Scheduled Castes Financial Development Corporation. Claridges Skills Program- Introductory Level Number of Seats – 25 Eligibility - Only Scheduled Caste candidates whose family income is below Double the Poverty Line (DPL) income i.e. Family income below Rs. 1,03,000/- in Delhi. Qualification - Students must be 12th class pass with may be limited English speaking ability. Course Duration - 2 Months Objectives -The main objectives of the program are – • To train individuals in both technical and soft skills in order to broaden their horizon of knowledge. • To develop these individuals into successful hospitality professionals. • To help these young professionals to open their own small scale business or place them within a Claridges Unit. Training Description • The training program will be five days a week, i.e. Monday to Friday. • The timing is 9.30am to 5 pm. • The first week will be a mix of introductions and Basic Theory and the second week onwards, every Monday will be practical cookery classes. • Monday to Friday will be ‘On the Job’ Training and the trainees will go to four kitchens and two areas of service. • There will be one person per trainee. • This will be an 80-20 program, 20% (six days) Theory/Practical inputs in Service and Production, 80% (32 days) in practical. It is the practical aspect which will allow them and also Claridges to realize whether they are tough enough cookies for Hotels. Claridges Advanced Training Program Training Description - During this period the trainees go through intensive 9 months theory and on the Job training. Stipend & travelling Allowance • Rs. 2000/PM as stipend; and • Rs.800/PM as travelling allowance-based on actuals, for training period for both the programs. The Training starts on 1st October and hence candidates need to be identified latest by 25th September 2013.
