The training permission is personally linked to the head of the department/senior specialist who is in charge for the selection and recruitment of postgraduate training applicants and is supervising and certifying your training. The duration of the training leading to the title of a specialist depends on the medical field and specialist title (German: Facharzt) you are aiming for and is ranging between 2 years (for a GP) to 6 years (for a major medical field like Surgery or Internal Medicine). The specialist title is subject to an oral examination by senior specialists of your training field at the physician chamber of the federal state you have been training in. As a physician in postgraduate training you are employed full-time by the hospital on a monthly salary basis, labor contracts are usually signed for 2 to 5 years duration. There is no government placement agency or support system, however, placement for a postgraduate training is the core of the IGPG placement service package.
