Options Bryan Bruce Please spare a thought tonight ( and a few dollars if you can afford it) for the children of Phillipstown School in Christchurch as this plucky decile one school goes to court to fight Education Minister Hekia Parata decision to close it. The children of Christchurch have been through an awful lot with the earthquakes and as a former teacher I know how important a stable school environment is for kids. When the ground is shaky and maybe family life is shaky - why would you add to the trauma of children by forcing them to change schools. A school is not just a collection of buildings- in this case ( as in many others) Phillipstown lies at the heart of that impoverished community. Close the school and the heart stops beating .
