#OrangeHighBlogPost #2 of 5: Delectable Danish Dishes (Written by: Jordan Horvat, Leslie Sensibello, Ryan Sonkin & Matthew Schiff) Our trip in Denmark is slowly coming to an end but our experiences will always be remembered, specifically the food. The Danish food was nothing like we expected. It was far more delicious and also a great experience to try foods that we are not normally used to. Some foods in Denmark are very similar to the food we eat in America. However, there are also many differences. For example, bread is consumed in Denmark a lot more than we do in the USA. We use bread as a side whereas the Danes use it as a main dish in every meal. Another great dish we have experienced is the “Salad Pizza.” One of the most popular dishes in America is pizza, but nothing like the ones in Denmark. In Denmark, a common topping is salad, whereas in America, salad is considered its own course. Chicken and potatoes is also a very popular dish we have had in Denmark. Although we have these items in America, we wouldn’t consider them as popular as they are in Denmark. America is popular for having several fast food restaurants specifically McDonalds. We learned that McDonalds is also a restaurant here in Denmark. Even though McDonalds has a pretty common menu everywhere there are a few differences in the menu regarding the certain dishes that are offered. One dish in Denmark that is not offered in the United States is the “chili cheese poppers”. These poppers are melted cheese and jalapeno peppers mixed together and fried. The description of the poppers we thought at first sounded gross but as we tried it we couldn’t stop eating them. Since McDonalds is considered a fast food chain its normally a cheap price. In Denmark, we have noticed the prices for food are significantly more costly. Another popular place in America is Starbucks and we noticed the same thing about the prices being much higher than they are in the states. For a cup of coffee it was about eight dollars while back at home it is normally around four to five dollars. From the exotic foods we tasted to the high prices we have paid, we have really enjoyed every bite. Although we have gained some weight from eating all the delicious meals here in Denmark, Danish food is definitely something we will miss.
