Oregon State Treasurer Ted Wheeler wants the state to borrow millions or billions of dollars to subsidize student higher education costs. The legislative referendum will be on the November 2014 ballot. In a presentation last October, he was asked if this money will be properly used for technology and other purposes. His answer seemed to undermine his own arguments in favor of the measure. If technology will drive down higher education costs for students, why saddle Oregon taxpayers with millions or billions of dollars of debt to subsidize the old high-cost economic model?
