Organ Donation The Australian Transplant Games have been held this week in Melbourne. They are a celebration of the 2nd chance of life received through organ and tissue donation. The Games unite all those touched by donation including transplant recipients, donor families, living donors and those waiting for a transplant. Through sports, games and various cultural events, competitors benchmark their renewed health and wellness and say thank you to organ and tissue donors. Importantly the Games promote awareness of organ and tissue donation and have resulted in a flow on effect of increased organ donation rates in each year the Games are held. My sister Liz, who received a liver transplant ten years ago, competed and came home with many medals!
