Organic, natural impulses do what exactly? How exactly do they move? Do they spring? Flow? Jump? Run? Or, shimmy, maybe. Apparatus. Freud theorized the unconscious. The mind complex. Sometimes I find it strange - that before the beginning of the 20th century, words like unconscious, dreamwork, and transference were not common speech - paroles. But, certainly these ideas were expressed before Freuds astonishing observations. I mean, what feels so true about the unconscious? Please, can I borrow that idea and try it on for myself? And, what about the barrier between the unconscious and consciousness? To me, it feels porous but not in a way that is predictable or consistent. Its exasperating to even think about. Some part of the mind inaccessible to consciousness seems to work on its own, independent of the subject. This cauldron, this petri dish of affect, memory and phenomenal perception, generates ideas which move back to front - and the creative act is mostly a stance of observation, noticing, observing what is happening anyway.
