Originally a comment, but worth its own post and its weight in gold - Sheer GENIUS from the Master himself, Denis Ian on the latest trash on CC to hit the rag that is NY Post. Please read it. The man truly is amazing. Very funny and spot on accurate: Heres a laugher: He (King) has mobilized moderates — the individuals whose voices often go unheard — and encouraged everyday parents to push back against the bold and false claims often advanced from the fringe. The mans had the snot knocked out of him from Glens Falls to Poughkeepsie and back. If he finds a dozen parents who are in a swoon over Common Core he should ask for their autograph. The NY Post is owned by Rupert Murdoch ... the transplanted ostrich-hunter from Australia ... whos a die-hard Common Core pimp. I love when foreigners instruct us on our need for reform so that we can join the ranks of the mediocre. Every few weeks Murdoch rushes out this sort of pablum in the hope that Common Core doesnt die on his watch. This sort of periodic desperation is terribly amusing ... I can imagine the reaction of the poor bloke who actually has to pen this kind of journalistic jabber. Well get to him in a bit. Another odd-ball. Talk about journalistic license! Get a load of this ... In the middle, (presumably between all of us extremists) many parents raise legitimate concerns about what implementation of high, consistent standards will mean for their child, and about what the changes will mean in practice. Give me a second to wipe up the snarf. The only concern parents have is when does this torture end. Find me those parents and Ill clean up YOUR snarf. For free. The NY Post never disappoints when it comes to hyperbole ... also known in the trade as bullshit. But I have to admire their willingness to send out their MASH Unit now and again to bandage poor and battered John King. I suspect well soon see John King bobblehead dolls nodding in the rear window of newspaper delivery trucks. My very favorite plea in this warped defense of Common Core is, Its past time for reasonable and sober minds to come together, shelve the silliness ... How correct! But not for the logic the Post supplies. The issue of Common Core has now lurched into the land of the absurd. Teachers are disgusted. Parents are furious. And theres a cavalry of educational experts that has destroyed the last vestiges of any legitimacy this reform ever had. Its now late-night fodder and the source of endless internet humor. Black humor. Last observation. Harold Ford, Jr. scribbled this messy missive. Hes a former Tennessee congressman now roaming the halls of NYU. Of course, Tennessee is the Sorbonne of American education. Like so many others, he seems to have experienced his very own socratic epiphany ... replete with miraculous and instantaneous expertise ... despite the small hole in his resume of ever teaching a SINGLE DAY in a public school. He and the other know-nothing Common Core burpers must be forgiven ... in the biblical sense ... for they know not what they do. As usual. Amen. More curious ... from the political observation deck ... is that Mr. Ford is a certified liberal ... writing for a conservative rag ... in one of Americas most progressive cities. Talk about strange bedfellows. Im not changing those sheets! But it is a commentary on the bi-partisan disdain for Common Core. So, thank you Mr. Ford ... for this wretched backfire. Weve enjoyed it. And we look forward to the next installment of hollow humor from our friends at the New York Post ... the paper that never fails to flog the truth. Adios. Denis Ian
