Originally scheduled as an off-day on their U.S. tour, The Beatles were asked to come to Kansas City and play at the Municipal Stadium on September 17, 1964, thanks to Kansas City As baseball team owner Charles O. Finley, who convinced Brian Epstein to accept a fee of $150,000 for one show, more than any American artist had ever received to play a single concert. To celebrate their visit, the group added the Wilbert Harrison classic, Kansas City to their repertoire for the night. The hotel where they stayed sold their bed sheets to a man who cut them up into small pieces to sell as souvenirs.
