Orkestar Zirkonium is our HONK! Fest West band of the day. ORKESTAR ZIRKONIUM (Seattle) is an American mobile brass-and-drum ensemble that formed in 2003 to play the propulsive, virtuosic brass music of the Eastern European Romani diaspora. Inspired by greats such as Fanfare Ciocarlia, Kocani Orkestar, Goran Bregovic, Boban Markovic, Esma Redzepova and others, the group performs traditional popular music from Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, and India, as well as original dance tunes generated by the band. Zirkoniums energetic stage and offstage shows have lit up art-deco theatres, street parties, clubs, cultural halls, parks, condemned buildings, midnight intersections, and surprised taverns and commercial spaces. The band is equally at home playing massive concert halls as it is bursting into a bar uninvited, leading a street party through back alleys at midnight, or playing a mass wedding at City Hall to celebrate Washingtons first day of marriage equality.
