Oromo Folk Music @ Irreecha Posted: Fulbaana/September 15, 2014 · Finfinne Tribune | Gadaa This year’s Irreecha (Oromo Thanksgiving) is being celebrated by Oromos and friends of the Oromo around the world. On August 31, Oromos and friends of Oromos in Toronto (Canada) kicked off the 2014 Irreecha celebration. And, on September 13, 2014, it was the turn for Stockholm, Sweden. The biggest Irreecha celebration will be in Bishoftu at the Hora Arsadi (Lake Arsadi) in Oromiyaa on October 5, 2014. And, Oromos around the world are set to hold their own Irreecha celebrations – here’s the schedule so far acquired: gadaa/OromoEvents.html On Irreecha celebrations, folklore has an important place. After all, in the absence of writing, the Oromo Nation relied on folklore to transfer societal knowledge from one generation to another: music, stories and fables are means for storing collective knowledge for transfer to the next generation.
