This story has touched my heart. Its why we do what we do. I remember the conversation over the phone when the doctor told me I would never father my own child like it was yesterday. The call dropped me to my knees in sorrow. I was angry, angry at biology, angry at mother nature, angry at God. Loving history and geneology having kids was so important to me, and having someone to call me dad was a huge deal for me after getting married a year earlier. So many plans were suddenly ripped from my heart. I had this awful feeling I let my wife down somehow. Thats why we started foster parenting. Although our original goal was to get experience before having our own rugrats. In my anger towards God I called out to him in defiance and said, Im gonna be a father whether you want me to, Im gonna show you!! I had no idea it was all part of His plan. 103 kids later that have lived with my wife and I as well as the hundreds (at least) kids I have impacted while teaching troubled kids we have turned adversity into opportunity. Because of my Heavenly Fathers plan I have my sons that call me DAD, and I am blessed with my grandbabies who will know ME as their GRANDPA (a title I wear with pride). One my St Marys kids years ago knew I was an adoptive foster dad and he shared with me poems he kept and some he wrote that shared his love for his adoptive mom. His favorite was the born of my heart, not of my blood poem. I had a special connection with this boy and I cherish his poems I keep them to this day to keep his memory alive even after he was tragically gunned down in a gang thing he was trying to break from. This young man from Florida speaks some of the feelings I had after finding I would not have any biologicals myself.
