Orwell and the BBC. In 1940, George Orwell joined the British governments Ministry of Informations newly established Propaganda Broadcsting Unit, known publicly as the BBC. He wrote and broadcast a regular news show for India, in which he happily promoted British interests in the sub-continent, in opposition to the Japanese and German interest there, he also knowingly engaged in straight-forward pro-Allied propaganda.
