Oscar News for Michael Keaton Heard a Hollywood News reporter interviewed today on NPR about the upcoming Oscars. She said that Birdman would be nominated for best picture and Michael Keaton for Best Actor. Of course I am thrilled. Keaton is an old friend of mine and he has quite frankly knocked himself out promoting my book without me asking him to do so. He has been all over the place recently talking up his flick, and after I saw him on one talk show last week I wrote to congratulate him on his performance. However, I wrote, a plug for my book was conspicuous by its absence. He wrote back with a chuckle and said that his former assistant had started her own business and that he had given her a copy of my book. He said hearing from me was an incredible coincidence since he had just that very minute heard from his assistant saying she loved my book and asking if he could arrange a phone call with me. Since, due to another pure coincidence, I am going to be in LA next month I have arranged to meet personally with her instead. I have not been inside a movie theater in 15 years but I plan to see Birdman tonight or tomorrow night.
