Oswestry U16/17s 50- Newtown U16/17s 7 Oswestry travelled with only 14 players, but were to prove but the stronger fitter side. Finn Grogan was in charge at stand-off and he was always a danger with his slick passing and tactical kicking. Captain, Dan Morgan enjoyed being back at scrum half and pressure soon took its toll on the Welshside following a mazey run by Rees Jones saw him pass out to Rohan Hudson to score. He soon doubled his tally with a similar score. The lineouts andscrums were a good platform and the next try came with the ball being whizzed out wide with fullback Thomas Henry sliding into the corner. Just before halftime Oswestry broke out of their own half and a clinical finish by Rohan Hudson saw him complete his hatrick. Newtown had some bright passages of play and their centre took a crash ball and raced through to get the side a well deserved try just after the half time break? The Eaglets then reasserted their authority and clever interplay in the backs saw Thomas Henry glide in under the posts, his fifth in the last 4 games. Jack Charmley at no 8 obviously wasn’t happy with the backs having all the tries. He picked up from a 5 metre scrum and dived over to score. Liam Williams had 3 good runs on the wing and was taken out around the neck while going in to score, he soon got the ball in his hands again and his pace took him down the wing and around the fullback to scoree. Dan Morgan finished an excellent days play when he picked up the ball from the scrum on halfway and side-stepped the defence to race over to down the ball down and take the score to the 50 mark. Next week sees Newcastle-under-Lyme Colts visit Oswestry in the league.
