Other civilizations have glorified power and might. They delude themselves into believing they are all-powerful, and then they fall. While acknowledging the responsibility man has to defend himself and his own, and to exert power as needed, Judaism enshrines not mans strong hand but his vulnerability. We are not the Eagle, reigning over the heavens. Rather, we beseech the All-Powerful in sober recognition of our mortality.
