Other than an occasional excited howl every two or three months from Atticus to express joy at greeting someone he knows, neither Atticus nor Will bark. So it was a shock a few minutes ago on this peaceful and quiet chilly afternoon when Will started yelping and barking in his sleep like someone was hurting him. Both Atticus and I hurried to him from our respective places and Atti watched as I let Will know it was okay. Old, dear Will, I imagine, revisits something troubling in his past when he does this (its probably happened half a dozen times since weve had him). All I need do is to remind him where he is with a gentle touch. Hes now back asleep, snoring blissfully with his head raised on a pillow and his body covered in a handmade afghan while Vivaldi vibrates on the floor next to his warm bed. Sleep well, my friend.
