Our Chobe Enclave Team came across two young male lions yesterday - TopicsExpress

Our Chobe Enclave Team came across two young male lions yesterday while on their way back to camp after a cattle post interview session! After spending some time with them they settled down, relaxed and the team were able to get some identification images of them. Understanding and determining the carnivore populations in this area is part of Wildlife ACTs role within the Human Wildlife Conflict study we are assisting on. Individual identification contributes towards collecting long term data about that individual and establishing its roles within the greater picture. How do you identify a lion? Well each lion has a unique whisker pattern on his left and right sides of the face. The very top row of whiskers is the unique row, with a reference row below that (see the red circle). These together with natural ear notches and scars on the face can assist greatly in identification.
