Our Editorial Director took a trip to the new Ruger plant in NC and gives a quick report: Ruger’s new factory in Mayodan, NC, has been up a running since building its first gun on Nov. 1, 2013. Currently about 100 workers are employed in the plant—a refurbished textile mill—and for the time being are building the new Ruger American Rimfire rifle. But much more is planned, as the company is now using just a fraction of the available floor space. Said Ruger CEO Mike Fifer: “After narrowing it down to finalist locations, we conducted ‘job fairs’ to gauge local interest—and also to flush out local anti-gun sentiment. Here we got a phenomenal response all the way around. Good area and facility in a good state with a good governor. It’s where we want to be.”
