Our “Fulbrighter of the Month“ Stephanie Timm shares her holdiay experience in Singapore: The holiday season in Singapore is quite different when I compare it to the one back home in Illinois and the biggest difference and most obvious, is the weather! Contrary to the music I keep hearing in the malls here, Singapore don’t need to ‘let it snow’, not at 87°F and 95 percent humidity or with the recurring thunderstorms! So instead of hiding from the polar vortex in my apartment as I did last year, in Singapore, I’ve been able to walk freely through the shopping malls, experience bubble machines spewing out snow and watch Santas sit comfortably next to portable air conditioners. It’s quite clear that the holiday spirit does easily transcend climate and culture. Just like in Illinois, I see excited children here dotting decorated streets, parents shopping for the perfect gift, and above all, people spending time with their loved ones. To all, happy holidays!
