Our Intentional God (05/06/14) Genesis 17:17-19 BUT GOD… Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child? And Abraham said to God, Oh that Ishmael might live before You! BUT GOD said, No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. (Genesis 17:17-19) When faced with what seemed to be an impossible situation, Abraham offers an alternative solution. He knew what the outcome would be: he would be the father of many nations. But not being able to see past his circumstance, seeks to provide a different option, believing the outcome--God’s plan--would still be accomplished. He needed to learn (as do we) that how we get to the promise may be as important as the promise itself. And that promise has profound results with you and me today: It is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants. (Romans 9:8) APP: Are you faced with an impossible situation? Jesus tells us in Matthew that with Our Intentional God, “All things are possible”. Remember, “Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.” (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
