Our Intentional God (05/08/14) 1 Samuel 23:14 BUT GOD… David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. And Saul sought him every day, BUT GOD did not deliver him into his hand. (1 Samuel 23:14) It didn’t take long for Saul to have the kingdom stripped away from him and given to David. Thinking he could resist God’s will in the matter, he seeks to kill David, thus keeping the kingdom in his family and tribe. But try as he might, God kept David away from Saul’s clutches. And by the way, we must not forget that Christ Himself comes out of the house of David. APP: What did it mean to David to have God deliver him from death? In Psalm 56 David writes: “In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?” David learned what it meant to trust God--the God who is Almighty and all-powerful. Have you learned to trust the Lord? Consider this great passage from Paul’s letter to the Romans: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32) The deliverance of God ‘s is not just a deliverance from—like David being delivered from the hand of Saul; but it is a deliverance to— to give us all things, especially Himself. How should we respond to that kind of deliverance?
