Our Italian Feast on November 11 will serve up Puccinis charming String Quartet in D; his teacher Amilcare Ponchiellis Ricordanze della Traviata Memories of La Traviata, a lyrical and virtuosic divertimento which draws on melodies from Verdis middle-period opera-the brindisi (drinking song) Amami Alfredo, the first act love duet Ah forse lui, and Gran Dio, morir si giovine! from Act IV; Respighis graceful Neoclassical wind quintet; and the lush, passionate and irrepressibly Romantic Piano Quintet by Vittorio Giannini. Featuring pianist Roman Rabinovich (Rubinstein prize, and an artist of the highest caliber), violinist Itamar Zorman (Tchaikovsky winner, a virtuoso of emotions), and Cynthia Phelps (Tertis laureate, a superb musician and principal violist of the New York Philharmonic).
