Our Monday evening meeting was highly informative and entertaining, with an agenda showcasing two talented speakers. Greg Bennick (member of SPEAKOUT and Chinook TM clubs) regaled us with his story of turning his juggling skill into a corporate speaking engagement at the age of 14. Beyond the story was this tip for becoming a famous speaker - Develop a unique talent of some kind that you can use as a metaphor for communicating your message. His juggling act at the end became the wrap-up of five key tips, each tip successively becoming a ball in the air. Impressive! Darrel DeRochier, independent workforce training consultant (member of Edmonds and Extraordinaires TM clubs) reminded us that trainers and speakers must be prepared for the modern-day challenges of more diversity, more technology, and more distractions with less time to focus. Having deliberate intentions, embracing commonalities, and customizing your message to your audience are ideal strategies for meeting these challenges. Thanks, Greg and Darrell, for sharing your lessons learned.
