Our Neighborhood is coming together for families battling childhood cancer in our community, please read article below. Thank you Lake Nona 13.1 When your child is diagnosed with cancer, your whole world and family life is turned upside down. (They tell you the chemo will hopefully save your child, however the long term effects, secondary cancers, heart issues can also hurt your child). When you are going through chemo, radiation, treatment plans, you wait for the news of N.E.D or end of chemo and all you try to do is take it one step or milestone at a time. When your child is N.E.D, the fight to keep him N.E.D starts. We had to have scans at first every 8 weeks, we now have scans every 3 months and will do for the next two years and then every six months for the following 2 years. Once Trevor has been of treatment for five years they consider him cancer free. The worry will never go away, the fear of the cancer coming back, the side effects and long term effects weigh on us all the time. We feel blessed and extremely lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderful people in our neighborhood who are going to run and stand together to help us and other families in the community.
