Our Public Seminar Series continues tomorrow with a talk by Daniel Wilsher of City University London and Francesca Cancellaro of Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna. Dr Wilsher and Ms Cancellaro will speak on Arbitrary detention of asylum-seekers: a comparison of some recent practice from Italy and the UK. Using examples from the detained fast-track system in the UK and from the Italian island of Lampedusa, they will examine how the detention of asylum seekers has evolved since the Strasbourg Court placed strict legal constraints on such detention in Saadi v UK, and whether these legal constraints have in fact been undermined by executive practice. The seminar takes place at 5pm in Seminar Room 1, Oxford Department of International Development, OX1 3TB. There is no registration required and all are welcome to attend.
