Our Spirit Dear Facebook Friends, Our SPIN Silk Painters International page was founded for the purpose of providing an open forum for the love of Silk Art. We, as members of SPIN, wanted to be able to share our work, ask for comments and bring awareness to our organization. Of course our hope was that with this exposure, members would want to join SPIN, the organization. There have been several things we did not anticipate. 1. The rapid growth of our page’s membership. 2. The audacity of some members who just can’t resist the temptation to self-promote. 3. The malice with which some members choose to voice their opinions. It should not have come as a surprise to us that any seemingly innocent discussion of silk art can descend into mean spirited tirades. This brings me to our current issue. Please know that SPIN’s board of directors did not arrive at the decision to increase the cost of shipping our Silkworm to international members on a whim or w/o research. The topic was under discussion for at least 4 past board meetings. It was determined that it was fiscally irresponsible not to make the necessary changes. Using our old and quite outdated formula in which we were absorbing the international costs, we would only be able to cover the costs of three issues rather than our current four. The Board members determined that in order to maintain the high quality of our four Silkworm issues an increase was necessary. Perhaps the reason people on our Facebook page are critical of our decision is because they simply don’t have all the facts. I have to continue to be patient in hopes that folks with common sense and no taste for malice will prevail.
