Our Tennessee House Representative Jeremy Faison Has written House bill 855 and it has been signed by Speaker of the house of Representatives, Beth Harwell, Speaker of the Senate, Ron Ramsey and Governor Bill Haslam. capitol.tn.gov/Bills/108/Bill/HJR0855.pdf I cannot express in words how much we appreciate this honor from our state government and how much we appreciate what Mr. Faison has done. The Hood and Poland family will always be loyal supporters of Jeremy for his efforts. HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 855 By Faison A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Carol Rebecca Hood of Cocke County. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Carol Rebecca Hood; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Hood was an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for her fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Hood was born in Villa Rica, Georgia, on November 15, 1951, to Juanita and John Bush; and WHEREAS, she attended David Lipscomb College, where she graduated with a degree in English and Biology, and she later attended veterinary school in Knoxville; and WHEREAS, Carol Hood served with acumen and alacrity in a variety of positions, including working as an English teacher at White Haven Elementary School and aiding in the development of the Quillen College of Medicines genetics lab; and WHEREAS, a veterinarian and owner of her own practice, Carol Hood sold her practice to work with the Newport animal shelter, in which position she helped to raise the shelter’s rate of saved animals; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Hood also began the non-profit, Beat the Heat, which spays and neuters animals at a low cost for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it; and WHEREAS, her efforts led to her receipt of the Distinguished International Academy of Noble Achievement (DIANA) Award from Epsilon Sigma Alpha International; the award recognizes women who dedicated themselves to unselfish service; and HJR0855 015222 -2- WHEREAS, Carol Hood was an active part of her community, and among other roles, she began the PTA at Newport Grammar School, was president of Natural Bridge Ruritan, founded Cocke County’s Habitat for Humanity, and was a Girl Scout troop leader; and WHEREAS, Carol Hood was also deeply devoted to her family, and she always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Hood enjoyed the loving companionship of her husband, Michael, and was the proud parent of Matthew Hood (Joslyn) and Laura Poland (Gene); she was also the proud grandparent of Calvin, Rahli, Silas, and Genevieve Poland and Jackson Hood, and the proud grandparent by marriage of Ain Eccles and Joshua Spiegel; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Hood leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all her chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that this General Assembly should pause to remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Carol Rebecca Hood, reflecting fondly upon her impeccable character and her stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mrs. Hood. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
