Our Tour of The Holy Land Continues… The Ein Gedi Oasis At The Dead Sea The Ein Gedi Oasis is where David hid from King Saul. Ein (Spring) Gedi (Kid-Goat) is the largest Oasis on The Western Shore of The Dead Sea. It was part of the territory belonging to The Tribe of Judah. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth at 400 meters (About 1,312 Feet) below sea level. Ein Gedi is first mentioned in Genesis as being an Amorite City, smitten by Chedorlaomer in his war against The Cities of The Plain and in The Book of Joshua, Ein Gedi is enumerated among the cities of The Tribe of Judah in The Desert. As it is written: Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh), and conquered all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, who lived in Hazazon-tamar (that is, Ein Gedi). (Genesis 14:7) Nibshan, the City of Salt and Ein Gedi; six cities with their villages. (Joshua 15:62) Later, King David hides in the desert of Ein Gedi (1 Samuel 24:1-2) as King Saul pursues him with 3,000 of his best men, even upon the most craggy rocks, which are accessible only to wild goats. And in 2 Chronicles Ein Gedi is identified as the place where the Moabites and Ammonites gathered in order to fight Jehoshaphat. As it is written: 1When Saul returned from following the Philistines, he was told, Behold, David is in the Wilderness of Ein Gedi. 2 Then Saul took 3,000 chosen men out of all Israel and went to seek David and his men among the Rocks of the Wild Goats. (1 Samuel 24:1-2) Then some came and reported to Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, out of Aram and behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar (that is, Ein Gedi).” (2 Chronicles 20:2) The Song of Songs speaks of fragrant flowers in The Vineyards of En Gedi. As it is written: My beloved [shepherd] is to me a cluster of henna flowers in The Vineyards of Ein Gedi [famed for its fragrant shrubs]. (Song of Solomon 1:14) And finally, the prophet Ezekiel prophesies that when our Lord returns, splits The Mount of Olives in two and then establishes His Millennial Kingdom The Dead Sea will be refilled with fresh water from a Spring under The Mount of Olives, come back alive and teaming with fish and Ein Gedi will become a fishermans Village! As it is written: The fishermen shall stand on [the banks of The Dead Sea]; from Ein Gedi even to En-eglaim shall be a place to spread nets; their fish shall be of very many kinds, as the fish of the Great or Mediterranean Sea. (Ezekiel 47:10) So, be encouraged saints, if God can bring The Dead Sea back to life (WHICH HE CAN!), He can easily do the same in The Resurrection for you, with a Glorified Body too!
