Our Transforming for Missions Team for Cultural Dialog has begun a dialog on cultural issues at Zion and in the Church in general. I (Pastor Ellis) believe it will be a very dialog. We met Friday, October 3, to begin our dialog. We met for two hours and spent most of the time brainstorming the various cultural divides at Zion and in churches i general. Here are some of those cultural divides we identified. Feel free to comment and add to the list. Inappropriate comments will be deleted. Cultural divides at Zion and in churches i general: those who prefer traditional worship vs those who prefer other styles; different ages or generations; male vs female; race or ethnicity; economic backgrounds or situations; new members vs long-time members; different personalities; doers vs dreamers vs talkers; language barriers; blue collar vs white collar vs ?; traditional families vs non-traditional; Lutheran background vs non-Lutheran background or even no church background; political differences; differences in relationship status (married or single or widowed or divorced or?); kids vs no kids; disabilities can create cultural divide; employed vs unemployed; homelessness; lifestyle choices; different stages of spiritual maturity; wanting Zion to be inward focused or outward focused; educational background; religious preferences; differing moral viewpoints; clothing style preferences; comfort with technology or social media options; immigrants vs citizens; etc.... Team members, did I miss any? Cultural differences arent always necessarily good or bad. They are just a reality. One team member stated that properly using them could make us stronger. We will talk about how to do that rather than just groaning about them or trying to remove them. Can you add to our list or comment on it? Lets begin a FaceBook dialog. Please keep you thoughts and your comments positive as we dialog!
