Our Trip to Prickly Ball Farm :-) We began at introduction by discussing how some of us were feeling. One child told everyone that he was excited about going to the farm. We then went over to the school playground where we had a bit of a run around before name stickers were stuck on to each child and then we returned to preschool a few at a time to go to the toilet and collect our bags. We were separated into our groups and went out to the coach one group at a time, where the grown ups helped us to put our seat belts on. The bus was very very big which meant that we could see out for quite a long way allowing us to easily spot horses, cows and tiny cars along the way. When we arrived we walked up the hill to the entrance, finding some picnic tables to sit at where we could enjoy our snack. Before long we were met by a lady called Tasha who was going to be our guide for the day. We left our bags at the picnic tables and made our way into the barn where we saw a picture of Old MacDonald :-). We sat on some hay bales where we were able to hold lots of different animals. These included guinea pigs, rats, mice, ducks, a rabbit and a huge black cockerel called Roger! We then washed our hands and made our way to the hedgehog hospital to see a poorly hedgehog. We had to be very quiet if we wanted to smooth him ;-) We returned to our picnic benches where we ate lunch before having a play in the park where there was a sandpit, tyre swings, bridges and a slide :-) Tash then took us to see (and hold) some ferrets who were really quite stinky and not many of us were too keen on them!. After we had finished with them, we went outside into the field, where we had a group picture taken, before we practised roly-polys down the hill which was great fun! There were three goats at the farm and we were asked if we would like to take them for a walk on their leads. We split into two groups so whilst one group took turns walking them, the others grouped in the field for a quick game of ‘Duck, duck, goose’ (well, we had to squeeze it in somewhere didn’t we! ;-) ), before swapping. We then sat and reflected on our day, with many who were a little nervous at the start, agreeing that it had been a pretty fab day out :-) We called Tash over to say a massive thank you for being our guide for the day. The day was finished with a trip to the toilet and a quick drink, before making our way back to the coach, where many joined in with a sing song of the ‘Wheels on the Bus’ on the way home, whilst others preferred a snooze :-) As many of you will be aware, this was our first ever Pre-school outing (on a coach at least) and is something that we would like to become a regular part of what we do. The children today made it just perfect, behaving impeccably and showing the greatest respect to the bus driver, our guide, the animals and other visitors to the farm. You should be incredibly proud of them because we sure are! I would also like to pass on a huge thank you from the Pre-school staff for your part, as parents, in helping us today. We are very aware that many of you felt anxious, as did the children and we did all that we could to limit this for everyone, which was one of the main reasons we chose to leave site at 10am and gently encourage parents not to hang around. You were all fantastic at putting your trust in us, to do the best by the children and we thank you so much for that. Every day we feel privileged to work with children, but today.......even more so :-) Zoe
