Our Turn: New Orleans Requests State Police Again - New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is again asking for the state to provide additional protection for his city. Louisiana state troopers did come to the aid of New Orleans police last July after a French Quarter gun battle that killed a 21-year old nursing student and wounded nine others. That assistance has now ended, but Landrieu wants it restarted, citing the fact that New Orleans tourism is an economic driver for the entire state. Louisiana State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson says his concern is that additional officers for New Orleans would come at the expense of other parts of the state. We agree with him. Nobody wants to see New Orleans suffer because of its crime problem, but developing a stable and appropriately staffed police force is something the Crescent City has to do for itself. Thats Our Turn. Now, its your turn. Comment on this segment below or send an email to yourturn@wafb.
