“Our adherence to democracy should not be misconstrued as our weakness”: CM Chamling SDF Central Committee meeting held A Central Committee meeting of SDF party was held today at its party office at Indira Bypass. It was presided over by the party president, Honorable Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling. Party functionaries from various parts of the State attended the programme. The responsibilities of the party cadres and their importance in delivering their duties were discussed in the meeting. The party passed various resolutions after thorough discussions in its internal reviews. Addressing the gathering the party president Mr. Pawan Chamling offered warm greetings on the occasion of Loosong & Christmas. He wished all a very happy and prosperous New Year 2014. He appealed them to be vigilant and stand guard against opposition parties trying to spread misinformation in public and be upright so that the people of Sikkim do not have to live in any kind of fear. “The peace loving people of Sikkim will in no way tolerate such subversive activities and our adherence to democracy should not be misconstrued as our weakness”. Speaking about Janta Mela he said that all the demands and requirements of the people will be fulfilled. He stressed that workers designated for the purpose of drawing up the beneficiary list should ensure that none of the entitled person is missed. He hinted in the possibility of bringing into the ambit of Janata Mela beneficiaries, the people enrolled in the electorate list and having their houses to get benefits such as house upgradation, roof-sheets and induction cooker. Summing up the achievements of the SDF government in the last 19 years he said that it is a matter of great satisfaction and pride that Sikkim stands atop compared to other state in developmental matters. The government is hell bent to develop Sikkim’s tourism infrastructure more so that it achieves its optimum level as the potential is so high. At present Sikkim’s per capita income stands at Rs. 159000, GDP Rs. 10000 crore, Growth rate 22.8 percent. The BPL has come down to 8 percent from 42 percent. The literacy rate has gone up from 56 percent to a high of 82 percent. The Child mortality rate per 1000 stands 24, a marked improvement than the previous rate of 72. All these speaks volume of the government’s resolve in making Sikkim a highly developed state and will strive to leave not a single stone unturned to achieve its goal. The party workers should work diligently and ensure that the people are made well aware of these stellar achievement of the government. Sikkim is in the path of achieving greater heights and be a model state for the entire nation to look up to.
