Our birthplace Naogaon is home to a myriad of historical sites - TopicsExpress

Our birthplace Naogaon is home to a myriad of historical sites which are of priceless cultural significance. These distinctive sites characterize the heritage of the citizenry of the locality as well as the common heritage of humanity. While Paharpur ( the greatest Buddhist Bihar around the world, also historically known as Sompura Bihar) being the only listed site of this locality as UNESCO World Heritage, there are numerous others such as Jagaddala Bihar, Halud Bihar of identical significance which are yet to be recognized for a possible negligence by responsible authority. It is only until very recently dated April 2014, two of these sites are placed in the tentative list by UNESCO, whose final outcome is still uncertain. Not to mention that plenty of other historical sites belonging to different gradual dynasties of this broader area, including Dibbak Victory Monument, Ramgarurs Monument, Mahisantos (see posts of this pages for details), are yet to see any reliable initiative for their protection and conservation from damage or theft by both grabby peoples or groups, and mere over-curious public around. However, those of us deeply care for this historic value and their proper conservation can barely rely on the rather unplanned, patchy, irregular, and imperceptible initiative made by government side before they finally perish in their entirely. It is our sheer anxiousness and profound feelings towards these helpless heritage sites that drives us to take a positive community approach towards protecting and promulgating these priceless historical sites. Our approach we believe is intellectual, democratic, educational, and of course, it is complementary to all governmental and international initiatives of this regards. We would connect peoples bearing voluntary interests and together we would work within a systematic framework (see subsequent posts for formulating this). The area of work includes, (1) collecting information of the sites, (ii) forging a public pressure group by raising social awareness, (iii) being vigilant to proper conduct of their conservation, (iv) formulating civil planning centered around these heritage, (v) promulgating their historic values to attract tourists by publishing articles, (vi) ensuring proper resource of this district to appear as a historically center, (vii) It is worthwhile to mention here that the Naogaon district is situated in the northern part of present Bangladesh sharing a common cultural and historic bondage with her neighbouring states such as India and Pakistan. Traditionally, Indian subcontinent is a term that has been commonly used to refer to these countries of common past. Not only Indian subcontinent is birthplace to many of the world religions (e.g., Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism) but also it is domicile to one of the oldest civilizations (i.e., Indus civilization dated back in 2000 BC) in human history. This extinct civilization followed by various ancient and medieval aged noteworthy empires (such as the Pala Empire, the Gupta Empire, and the Mughal Empire) put this important region into a candidacy for many of the original man-made inventions that lay upon the foundation for many of the technological advancements we see today. Let us be Patrimonito of our own heritage.
