Our club meeting is today at noon at Forest Hill Restaurant. Please attend. We have a guest speaker Dr. Costner. "How will the SWEPCO power corridor environmentally impact the Ozarks". As Guest Speaker, Dr Costner will address the members of the Lions Club next Tuesday Noon - July 9, at Forrest Hill Restaurant. Guests are invited to attend to hear this timely topic. Dr. Costner has worked as a public interest scientist since 1978. Beginning in 1986, she served as Acting Director and then Research Director of the Greenpeace US Toxics campaign. In 1995, she joined Greenpeace International as Senior Scientist with the International Science Unit. Since retiring in 2004, she serves as Science Advisor to two global networks -- the International POPs Elimination Network (IPEN) the Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) - and as a member of the Dioxin Toolkit Expert Group for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. A native of Arkansas, Ms. Costner has also resumed an active role in local, state and regional environmental issues, especially those involving threats to water quality in the karst terrain of Northwest Arkansas, where she has lived for the past 37 years.
