Our community suffered a terrible, terrible loss today. My heart goes out to the friends and family of the officer, the MHPD and all law enforcement. Below is the statement Chief Janee Harteau and I sent out. Chief Harteau and Mayor Hodges Express Condolences In the Line of Duty Death of Mendota Heights Officer July 30, 2014(MINNEAPOLIS) On behalf of the Minneapolis Police Department, Chief Harteau and Mayor Hodges send their condolences to the men and women of the Mendota Heights Police Department and to their citizens. The loss of an officer is amongst the hardest things for law enforcement personnel to endure. Every call for service, every traffic stop poses an unknown risk for the officer. Every officer knows the dangers of the job, but day after day they put on their uniform and put themselves into harms way. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Mendota Heights Police Department, as well as the family and friends of the slain officer, Chief Harteau shared. Mayor Betsy Hodges added: This is a terrible loss for the entire community. My sympathies go out to the family and friends of the fallen officer, and to police officers everywhere. This tragedy is a reminder that our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line for us each day. I am grateful for their service.
