Our current Association stand-off between those who want a multi-million dollar Event Center vs. those who urge fiscal restraint and better clarification comes down to a matter of TRUST. Can we afford to continue to put our TRUST in a culture that has ruled HVLA for the past 20+ years with a performance record that has included: 1. $7.5 Million in losses in Golf & restaurant operations (2004-2013) 2. No independent oversight of finances (no independent reserve study) 3. Neglected Amenities - Lake, Equestrian Center, Tennis Courts 4. Delinquent Assessments averaging 22% 5. Lack of long-range planning 6. Selective rule enforcement 7. Abuses of Power 8. Multiple reports over many years of IRREGULARITIES in - a. Accounting b. Handling foreclosures c. Access to financial information d. Conflicts-of-Interest e. Elections f. Vetting employees and contractors Now, this same group is telling members that it: 1. Can erase those losses in a few years just by building a new multi-million dollar Center. 2. Is finally getting an independent reserve study. 3. Is going to do more for the Lake. 4. Is going to follow Best Practices. 5. Is going to decrease assessment delinquencies. 6. Is going to enforce rules more evenly. 7. Has the Best Interest of the members in mind. 8. But, wont address any of the items in #8 above. Frankly, I lost my TRUST in them many months ago. If you dont believe their performance record (above) is really true, then you havent been paying attention to HVLA politics over the years and you havent been reading your HVLA Views and its predecessor the HVLA Compass. Your Constitutional Rights are not just being ignored, they are being DENIED by this group. Our most Basic Community Issue is Loss-of-Rights and the consequent potential Loss-of-Control over our Community direction - home values, amenities, services, privacy. Wake up! Smell the coffee! Its not just a matter of your MONEY, or your HOME. Your Constitutional RIGHTS as a citizen are also at stake!
