Our dear, dear students. I was just thinking about something and I wanted to share it with you. I think that this semester is our best one by kind of a lot. Some of it is because Helen, Jeremy, and Stephanie have stepped up and taken the burden of administration out of Samanthas and my blistered, filthy hands. Some of it is because, due to their efforts, we have larger classes than we have in some time. A lot of it is because we see you guys out social dancing, talking about dancing, thinking about dancing, looking for music for dancing. However, the thing that really got me just now is that I realized that three, THREE of our students (Im counting you, Juhie, even though youve learned elsewhere and you havent been our student for very long) are apparently signed up to go to Lindyfest in less than two weeks. This, to me, is the height of what wed hope for you guys. That you are dancing--and doing well--is awesome. That you stick around is fantastic. That you are willing to do the work that we dont have time for is a huge relief. But the fact that you are participating in the international lindy hop world, helping to shape our dance and our culture, finding your unique voices and beginning the process of discovering what in the scene really resonates with you, well, thats nothing short of extraordinary. It makes me really happy. Also, if more than three of you are going, I hope the ones I didnt know about will tell me. Ill probably poop a unicorn.
