Our emerging scholar Henry Smart, a veteran concerned about the VA health service delivery crisis, proposes a potential solution on the Urban Institutes MetroTrends blog. Instead of adding another layer of bureaucracy, Henry writes, lawmakers should consider expanding patient advocacy. And nonprofit organizations embedded in their communities and already serving military veterans should play a key role as the facilitators of that patient advocacy.
