Our first OES was a beautiful boy who was born deaf. Our friend who used to breed OES was worried that she would not be able to find a home for him as deaf dogs have a label attached to them for barking and being difficult to train. Our vet told us we were probably taking on a bundle of trouble, however we did not listen and persevered.We called him Simba. We taught him sign commands, he was a very fast learner, so much so that when we walked him people we met were totally unaware that he was deaf.He was a truly gentle affectionate gentle giant.who gave us so much pleasure for 11 yrs when we had to have him put to sleep. his back legs went and he lost his sight to cataracts. We still miss him dearly, but know thats he is better now and running free across the rainbow bridge.
