Our friend Lou Reed passed away today. Not only blessed to know - TopicsExpress

Our friend Lou Reed passed away today. Not only blessed to know and interact with him over the years, I now must realize that our last personal time together was when we were both inducted in the 2010 class of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. So I will always remember how happy Lou was that night and how much fun he had at that gala event. He was always so supportive of WLIR from its earliest days and throughout the Dare To Be Different 92.7 heydays. Funnily even then, Lou never ceased to remind me how he grew up in Freeport, as if somehow I might have forgotten since last we met that he was a fellow Long Islander. His was an immeasurable musical impact in our lifetimes. Luckily, his often misunderstood and underestimated greatness looms larger each and every day, resonating now on college campuses just as it did when we were playing his music back on WNYU early 70s. I always liked dealing with Lou. Unlike other of my industry comrades, I found him a positive and fun presence to deal with. Especially evident of that was when LIR was lucky enough to have him return to public performances in the 80s at our infamous Ritz NYC Non-Conformal Ball, a triumphant concert. Our DRE party with his appearance at the Malibu is a backstage story of him tutoring a younger band how to play Sweet Jane so he could guest appear on their encore. As your song says Lou, just fly, fly, fly..., you will not be forgotten!
