Our goats need an agent and all of the latest news at BRS... News from Blue Rock Station: The buzz at Blue Rock Station this week is around the LA producers who called offering the possibility of making some sort of a TV show or film about our work with sustainability. We haven’t signed on the dotted line yet - we’re waiting to see the details of what they are proposing. If they are looking for Duck Dynasty with composting toilets - thats not going to work because we can make fools of ourselves without the help of professionals. The question I keep asking myself is, “What would folks like to see (learn) if they saw us on TV?” I’d seriously like for you to write back to us and let us know. This newest offer from the world of TV made us remember the time that WIFE SWAP producers tried to talk us into making an episode. The offer made me laugh right out loud, and then the producer said, “We’ll pay you $20,000.” That made me laugh even harder. In 2015 we expect to see many opportunities in the world of sustainability as our broader culture progresses towards “green-ness”. We have already had people registering for tours and workshops next year. On January 3rd, 2015 we’ll be having our first winter open house tour (you can still register to visit this Saturday (8th) or the Saturday after Thanksgiving (29th). Lots of folks have asked us what it’s like to live in an Earthship during the coldest part of the year - so we decided to show how the rocket stove, thermal mass and passive solar really work by sharing an afternoon of stories and a proper cup of tea. (Register early or make it a gift for the holidays) AND DON’T FORGET: We can still squeeze one or two more in to the Solar Installer Level I course in Wooster, OH (next week) Nov 10th - 14th. This course offering is co-sponsored by OEFFA (Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association). It will be held at Local Roots Market, 140 S. Walnut St, Wooster, OH. Again, details and registration forms can be found at bluerockstation. Upcoming Workshops from Blue Rock Station: The complete schedule for 2015 is posted at bluerockstation: November: November 8th - Earthship and Sustainable Farm Tour (Please RSVP) November 10th to 14th- Solar Installer Certification Level I class, Wooster, OH November 22nd - Annie will teach a workshop on THANKS FOR NOTHING month - sharing how to live without using energy or money - City Folks Farm Shop, Columbus OH November 29th - Earthship and Sustainable Farm Tour (Please RSVP) Final tour of the year The Critters: What a crazy year for livestock. If you read this section of the newsletter regularly you will remember some of the escapades of sickness and dying, birth and outrageous animal behavior. There are days when I wonder if the goats or llamas stand around discussing what to do next to drive me crazy. As I walk up the hill, I can see them gathered in the field or the barnyard. They suddenly look up, as if I’ve caught them in their scheming. At this very moment they’re all healthy and enjoying the weather. I’m grateful for that, as winter can be hard on them... it’s certainly hard on me as a farmer, and I get to snuggle up to the wood stove during the harshest of the weather. I’m especially looking forward to enjoying the newly remodeled barn. Jay’s worked hard to lift up the barn (with floor jacks, not his own glistening muscles) and has built a new foundation. Its now freshly painted, the barn doors open and close smoothly, and the stalls have been built so Etta Mae cant jump over the wall and climb the hay bales. This winter when the ground is frozen solid, I won’t need to climb over the barn yard gate to get into the barn. So much to look forward to in winter, wouldn’t you say? Words that Guided: Just for today I will spend this day as if it were the last, conjuring up what’s truly important and what I can leave behind. Kindest Regards, Annie
