Our government has no financial discipline. They spend & spend & then spend some more. Our nations debt is $17 trillion. Its like Monopoly money after a while. We cant fathom how much it is. That spirit has passed to us. We spend like theres an endless flow of money. Savings rates are at all time lows. Debt is at an all time high. Countless people are living week to week. The common problem is a lack of discipline. We dont wont to deny ourselves of any pleasures. Its a spiritual problem. Proverbs says that the borrower is a slave to the lender. Our lack of any financial discipline literally enslaves us to our creditors. We end up serving the one who controls us. Thats one of the reasons why church budgets are tight & shrinking. Thats why benevolence, charity & missions giving are down. The Bible says that our pleasure does not exist in what we have. Real contentment comes with a relationship with God. He satisfies. Spending on things that wear out will never bring peace & happiness. So if you are someone who is trying to find happiness in things, but youve found yourself in deep debt & unhappy, look to the one who satisfies. Be blessed.
