Our happy group brace themselves for another death defying - TopicsExpress

Our happy group brace themselves for another death defying experience on Sri Lankan roads. I think we are getting the hang of the road rules here now which come down to 3 basic rules - Rule number 1 - drive at high speed down the middle of the road and on coming traffic will magically give way to you. Pitty about the vehicle you have passed which has to break suddenly to avoid being run off the road. This rule is most effective when driving up hills or round corners where you have the element of surprise to the oncoming traffic. Rule number 2 - when approaching a bus stop leave it until the last 20 metres before applying brakes. This rule is most effective at high speed as the 10 or 20 people standing in the aisle have no time to brace themselves before they fall on top of each other. Rule number 3 - when approaching a bend in the road always accelerate as this causes the bus to tilt on to 2 wheels thereby saving wear & tear on the 2 tyres that are off the ground. Not really a road rule this one more an economy measure -why wear out 4 tyres when you can get by on 2? Above is a bit of fun but is pretty much reflective of our bus driver today. Off to Kandy tomorrow & the tea plantations.
