Our local crews are again involved in the firefighting effort tonight. 30 volunteer firefighters have given up their Friday night to assist with a significant back burning operation in the Hawkesbury area. These crews are working to contain the Howes Swamp fire which is burning near Putty Road, north of Colo Heights. This fire started a number of days ago after a storm moved through the area. It is expected that the crews will work through to tomorrow morning.
