Our neighbor wrote this to my wife last night: Tania, You probably already know this but , I wanted to make sure you and Glenn knew. Tomorrow, Dallas county commissioner is going to declare a local state of emergency. What that entails I have no idea. My head is freaking out. Experts now say that globally we could have 1,000,000 dead by January! That is too horrible to even think about. Every time I pray however, my spirit says we are okay. (His okay is sometimes different than mine:). But I trust Him) I do not believe in an angry and vengeful God. I do believe however, when you choose to live in a world where you say up is down and liquid is solid the universe rights itself. It must our we do not survive. Maybe we are beginning to see the gods of the copy book headings return. Rudyard Kipling wrote about what he witnessed happen after WW1. He left that poem as a warning. He fought against the early 20th century Fabian socialists and progressive movement. After WW1 and then the flu pandemic that swept the globe, he wrote a poem about what happens to society when it stops living by eternal truths. (He called them the gods of the copybook headings) Below are the last few stanzas. Read the entire poem on line. It is well worth the read. Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more. As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man There are only four things certain since Social Progress began. That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire, And the burnt Fools bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire; And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins, As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn, The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
