Our neighborhood uses a social networking service called NextDoor. Its like a Facebook for neighborhoods. Really, its a place for passive aggressive people to feel free to complain, gossip, and attack each other. Its all very serious and important problems like dogs pooping in the street, grass thats too high, and pool showers being used for unapproved activities by undocumented children. It can get very tiresome. So, me being who I am, I decided to rescue them all from their myopic sadness with a bit of fun. This is what I just posted. Im currently waiting for the fallout with bated breath. Dearest Neighbors, Soon I will be erecting a 31.7 foot high monument to Zeus in our front yard. This will require removing a tree so that the tip of the obelisk can contact the noon day sun, thus summoning the powers of the gods. My hope is that this will please Zeus so that he will in turn help me with my power bill. The obelisk must be lit by 4 spotlights 24 hours day, for Zeus does not sleep. I give you my word that the golden altar at the base of the obelisk will be tastefully crafted. I dont see anything in the HOA about monuments to Greek gods, so I thought I would ask here. Objections? (Be warned. Zeus is not to be trifled with) PS- there is also the small matter of the digging of the reflecting pool that will extend into the cul-de-sac, but we can worry about that after construction begins.
